Yesterday, I did my first ever makeup segment on LIVE TV here in Portland, OR! It was pretty exciting. The producer found my blog and contacted me. This is one reason you might consider blogging about your interests--it can definitely help open doors and lead to other opportunities. So if you're considering blogging and haven't taken the leap yet, I would encourage you to go for it. I would also recommend Squarespace, which is the platform I use for us non-techies.
We talked about 4 different holiday beauty trends that you can try in the upcoming holiday season:
1) The Glitter Eye
This can be as simple as using Urban Decay's Heavy metal glitter liner in the color Midnight Cowboy to add some glitter under the eye like I wore on the show yesterday. Or in the photo above, you can add a drugstore glitter eye liner like Revlon Photoready Eye Art on top of your eyeshadow. I used the color Steel Spark and layered the glitter liner on the top and bottom of the eye in the center. I did a halo eye where you use a darker eyeshadow on the outer and inner corners of the eye to highlight the glitter. Or as another option, you can also add some rhinestones or sequins for some extra sparkle.
2) The Smokey Eye
You can do a smokey eye with any darker eyeshadow color. It doesn't have to be black or gray--you can do a dark brown, plum, forest green or midnight blue. Basically, you are going to need to do a lot of blending and then do some more blending. I used an earlier Urban Decay palette for the look above, but the UD Naked Smoky palette would also be great to create smokey eye looks.
3) The Red Lip
The red lip is still a classic and definitely a look you can rock over the holidays. A true red lipstick, meaning the lipstick doesn't have a cool (blue) or warm (orange) undertone is going to look on good on most people, especially if you have a neutral undertone. Or if you have a cool undertone in your skin tone, go for red with a blue undertone. If you have a warm undertone in your skin tone, go for a red with a orange undertone. MAC has a lot of great red lipsticks. I have several reds that I like from MAC. Plus, you can stop by a counter if you need help picking a color that will look great on you.
4) Glow
Get that holiday glow by using highlighter! If you don't already use highlighter, this is such an easy way to add something extra to you makeup look. If you are looking for something really easy, use a cream highlighter like Benefit's Watt's Up. You just twist this product up and apply it with the stick then use you fingers to blend or the sponge. You can apply highlighter on the top of your cheeks, bridge of your nose, above your eyebrows and cupids bows--anywhere the light hits that you want to highlight. Another personal favorite of mine is Becca's shimmering skin perfector in the color Opal. I also really like to use Becca's brush with the product. It's so easy and gives a beautiful glow.
Don't feel like you have to do it all this holiday season. Just try one new trend to incorporate sometime this holiday season. If you don't usually rock a red lip, you could try that.... add some glitter to an eye look, do a smokey eye or add some highlighter. Whatever you do, just have fun and let me know what you think! Happy holidays, here's wishing you the best holiday makeup season ever. Also, don't forget to check out the full video on Afternoon Live here.
